The Empowerment Plan

Looking for some entrepreneurial inspiration? Check out this brief video on Veronika Scott and her project – The Empowerment Plan – which aims to both provide jobs to homeless single mothers and to provide coats which can become sleeping bags and knapsacks to those living on the streets of Detroit.

The Empowerment Plan aims to help build a better life for those that have become trapped in the cycle of homelessness. We give homeless women jobs while in the shelter so that they can earn money, find a place to live, and gain back their independence for themselves and for their families.

We are a humanitarian organization based in the city of Detroit. The plan centers around construction of a coat that transforms into a sleeping bag at night, and a bag when not in use. The coat is made by a group of homeless women who have been paid to learn and to produce the coats for those living on the streets.

The focus is to create jobs for those who desire them, and to provide coats at no cost for those who need them.
