Northwestern University Conference on Human Rights

The Northwestern University Conference on Human Rights is an annual event at which intellectuals, government workers, and activists from across the globe convene to discuss their areas of expertise in lectures and panels. NUCHR is the largest undergraduate student-organized and student-attended conference on human rights in the United States. Through programming events, student-organized seminars, exposure trips and a culminating conference, NUCHR raises awareness of international human rights issues and fosters social activism at Northwestern and beyond. The three-day conference unites student delegates from across the country with distinguished academics, activists, and policy-makers from around the globe to address a unique aspect of human rights each year.

This year, the conference takes place from January 16th to January 18th at the Northwestern campus in Evanston and focuses on “Environment and Human Rights.” Free lodging and meals will be provided to attending undergraduate students.

To apply to attend, fill out the conference application. As a delegate, you will be joining over forty undergraduate students from universities across the US. Together with distinguished academics, activists, and policy-makers from around the globe, delegates will examine the disproportionate impacts of environmental abuses and their effects on the most vulnerable communities. In addition, conference participants will analyze the compatibility and sustainability between economic development and environmental preservation and consider innovative solutions to these human rights issues. Speakers and delegates will also examine potential solutions to the current problems of inequality and accessibility, evaluate processes of sustainable development, and define the viability and applicability of environmental human rights.
