I am currently based in Lima, Peru, working on a project that is looking at cervical cancer screening among women in both Lima and Iquitos, Peru. The project is five years long and is currently in its first year of data collection. Through funding from the Taylor Center, I have been able to participate in this project, interviewing health care professionals, analyzing qualitative data, and managing our field team. The first stage involves assessing the system of cervical cancer screening by talking to medical personnel (i.e., midwives, gynecologists, oncologists, and pathologists), government officials, and women who have had cancer. Based on the information we gather from these various groups of stakeholders, we will start to identify the barriers related to cervical cancer care, and eventually, alongside stakeholders, develop strategies to address these barriers.
