With all this talk about raising the minimum wage and re-evaluating the food stamp system, people are beginning to wonder: what sort of impact would it have on me, as a consumer, if companies like Walmart were to raise the wage of their workers to a “living wage” – a wage at which a worker could afford basic food, shelter, and other living necessities without needing government assistance or food stamps?
