The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation USA is a national foundation that strengthens the sport for development sector by supporting organizations in their delivery of quality, sustainable programming that leads to positive social, health, and education outcomes for youth in underserved communities.

In order to achieve our mission, Laureus USA (1) invests in organizations that use sport for youth and social development; (2) generates evidence to prove that sport is a powerful method for achieving youth and social outcomes; (3) advocates for the wider adoption of the sport for development methodology; and (4) unlocks new resources to be invested, thus triggering a sustainable cycle.

Laureus USA has seen a lot of growth in the past year and is in the process of hiring for the newly created Program Officer position to be based in New Orleans. The New Orleans Program Officer will oversee Laureus USA’s strategy in New Orleans, which focuses on building capacity at local sport for development organizations and providing professional development opportunities to their staffs.

OBJECTIVES FOR NEW ORLEANS PROGRAM OFFICER

Relationship Development

  • Build strong relationships with local non-profit organizations, government agencies, funders, schools, and other stakeholders that have an interest in sport for development
  • Facilitate introductions between various stakeholders as opportunities present themselves
  • Be active in the youth and community development communities; Participate in conferences, workshops, networking events, and other thought leadership activities

Grantmaking

  • Make and administer grants to local sport for development organizations through Laureus USA’s grantmaking processes
  • Monitor grants through quarterly check-in phone calls and semi-annual reports
  • Ensure grantee data is entered into InFocus, our program database
  • Respond to grantmaking inquires specific to New Orleans

Networking Events and Trainings

  • Be proactive and listen to sport for development professionals on their challenges, needs, and solutions
  • Design and lead networking events and training workshops in alternating months for sport for development and other non-profit professionals
  • Liaise with Laureus’ global network of grantees to provide program trainings as necessary
  • Liaise with professional development organizations to provide trainings as necessary

InFocus* Consultancy and Training Services to Laureus Grantees

  • Lead InFocus introduction workshops for organizations to understand the approach, quality standards, and full range of support available and its relevance to them
  • Lead baseline needs assessments to help organizations assess their own M&E capacity and processes
  • Coordinate theory of change workshops with organizations to explore change and how it happens within the context of their organizations; and produce diagrammatic and narrative documentation for their strategic use
  • Act as lead liaison with Aqumen Social Technologies to ensure all InFocus projects in New Orleans are well coordinated and managed to deliver high quality services to our grantees

* Laureus has invested significant time and money over the past 3 years into the development of InFocus. InFocus was created in partnership with Aqumen Social Technologies and streetfootballworld and represents a package of M&E consultancy, training, and software that will strengthen the ability of non- profit organizations to measure their impact; and the ability of Laureus to aggregate data to make larger claims about the benefits of sport-based youth development. The New Orleans Program Officer will oversee InFocus implementations at organizations in New Orleans (in close collaboration with the Evaluation and Learning Specialist and designated Aqumen Social Technology staffs). 

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • Ambitious problem solver that naturally builds strong and trusting professional relationships
  • 5-plus years of experience within a non-profit organization with a deep understanding of non-profit operations, including board governance, finance, HR, programs, monitoring and evaluation, and development
  • Independent self-starter that has experience working remotely from a team
  • Strong project manager that can multitask, meet strict deadlines, and manage a team of people from partnering organizations
  • Excellent facilitation skills with a welcoming and outgoing personality
  • Commitment to teaching and sharing your expertise
  • Ability to unite people around shared ideas and build consensus within a group
  • Utility player who can excel in a small environment by taking on new challenges and tasks that
  • might fall outside of this job description
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the sport for development sector
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
