The Perry Initiative: Inspiring Women to Be Leaders in Orthopaedic Surgery and Engineering

The Perry Outreach Program is coming to New Orleans and we need volunteers! This year’s program is in conjunction with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ Annual Meeting at the Convention Center and will be on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 4:00-8:00pm. The Perry Outreach Program is a free, one-day, hands-on experience for high school and college-aged women who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine and engineering. Students will hear from women leaders in these fields and try it for themselves by performing mock orthopaedic surgeries and biomechanics experiments.
More information on The Perry Initiative can be found at perryinitiative.org. Women currently comprise only 7% of the surgeon and engineer workforce in orthopaedics. The event organizers believe that early exposure to these exciting, hands-on careers is key to boosting diversity. Please share this opportunity with any women you feel would like to participate. Questions regarding this program may be addressed to Dr. Michelle Sanchez at sanchez@tulane.edu.
The deadline to apply to be a volunteer is February 25, 2014. Apply now!
