Tulane SJP Presents The Refuseniks: Resisting the Israeli Draft

Draft dodgers: Conscientious objectors or Nation traitors?

Maya Wind, a conscientious objector of the Israeli Draft, and Eran Efrati, a former Israeli soldier, spoke about their experiences with the Israeli army and the occupied Palestinian territories in their lecture entitled “Soldier and the Refusenik,” hosted by Tulane University on Thursday, January 16. For those of you who were unable to attend, there’s good news: you can hear what Wind and Efrati have to say about their personal experiences with the Israeli occupation of Palestine and how the worldwide military industrial complex profits off of the apartheid state here.

Wind joined the Shministim movement in 2008, and as a young adult, she refused to serve in the Israeli army. She was sentenced to military prison and detention. Efrati served in the IDF after his high school graduation and spent most of his service time in Hebron and throughout the West Bank. After his discharge, he joined various organizations dedicated to raise the awareness of about the daily reality in the Occupied Territories.
